Opening night of Judy Collins @ The RRazz Room
No need to "Send In The Clowns" for tonight's opening of Judy Collins at The RRazz Room. Each song was carefully selected, Judy entertained us with brilliant back stories and a delivery that was on par with some of the best comedians I have seen, to date. God bless you, Judy!!!
After 52 years of performing, Judy Collins' set list falls under the "So many songs; so little time" category. She promised the set list would change nightly, encouraged all to return, with the caveat that it would take about a month of performing to cover her entire discography!
The audience was filled with long-time fans, as they joined Judy in song after song. In hindsight, the 10 performances in two weeks could have been billed as "What The 42nd Anniversary of Woodstock at The RRazz Room Would Be Like, Starring Judy Collins." As Judy said, "Like camping without the tents and sand."
Also in attendance for tonight's performance: Gil Gross of KGO Radio, Ben Fong-Torres, Suzanne Joy Kai of Asian Connections, Kathi Kamen Goldmark of West Coast Live and Melanie Stace.

SEND IN THE CLOWNS by STEPHEN SONDHEIM
Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.
Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.
Just when I'd stopped
Opening doors,
Finally knowing
The one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again
With my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.
Don't you love farce?
My fault, I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want -
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Quick, send in the clowns.
What a surprise.
Who could foresee
I'd come to feel about you
What you'd felt about me?
Why only now when i see
That you'd drifted away?
What a surprise.
What a cliché.
Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer?
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother - they're here.

D'AGOSTINO & LACY
Lush Life
Mon, 9/19, 8pm
$30
Inspired
by the title of Billy Strayhorn's most memorable song - D'Agostino
opens the show with the heart worn ballad and weaves an intricate and
entertaining tapestry through Lacy's masterful arrangements. For the
viewer - the great surprise is the heightened "in the moment" style
banter between vocalist and musician - and a healthy dose of
D'Agostino's own self-deprecating humor and comic delivery. Friends on
and off stage, D'Agostino and Lacy have built an organic but structured
piece of "Cabaret Theatre" showcasing not only D'Agostino's masterful
vocalizations - but his quick demand of the stage. Lacy, a highly
sought after musical director - creates a lush landscape in which the
listener nods carefully along, note by note, from medley to medley with
magical transition. Part history lesson, part Torch Song 101 - the
music spans from the Early Harlem Renaissance to modern-day blue eyed
soul (with a little Madonna to boot!). More...

"As Long As I'm Singing": RUSS LORENSON Celebrates The Music Of BOBBY DARIN
Tue, 11/15, 8pm
$30
An innovative performer whose tragically brief life was often stranger than fiction, Bobby Darin worked his way from shady nightclubs to The Copacabana, where he smashed all attendance records, and wowed audiences with hits like "Splish Splash," "Mack the Knife," and "Beyond the Sea." A dynamic entertainer, Bobby had Top 10 hits in Rock 'n Roll, Jazz, Pop, Country, and Folk, moving effortlessly through each genre and making it his own. Not just a Grammy-winning recording artist, Bobby was also an award-winning composer, an Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, and a music publishing mogul. His marriage to "America's Sweetheart" Sandra Dee broke young girls' hearts and made headlines around the world. Beset with illness from an early age, Bobby was driven to accomplish all he could in what he knew would be a brief life, and gave everything he had to be remembered "as a human being and as a great performer." An innovative performer whose tragically brief life was often stranger than fiction, Bobby Darin worked his way from shady nightclubs to The Copacabana, where he smashed all attendance records, and wowed audiences with hits like "Splish Splash," "Mack the Knife," and "Beyond the Sea." A dynamic entertainer, Bobby had Top 10 hits in Rock 'n Roll, Jazz, Pop, Country, and Folk, moving effortlessly through each genre and making it his own. Beset with illness from an early age, Bobby was driven to accomplish all he could in what he knew would be a brief life, and gave everything he had to be remembered "as a human being and as a great performer." But she's also been called a "soul legend," both before and after her successful detour into disco. Given her 40-year boundary-busting career, such labeling confusion is inevitable. More...

Girls' Night Out w Australia's Thunder From Down Under
"Girls' Night Out" is just a label to "celebrate life" with my fellow single girl friends. Sure, you can insert a theme song like Beyonce's "All The Single Ladies"; however, the "ring" is not the modus operandi for our group. Just a group of i-n-d-e-p-e-n-d-e-n-t women who work hard, but play hardER. You hear it time and time again: "Life is too short," so I remind you to spend quality time with those you love. The money, the fame, the material things all pale in comparison to our connections with one another. Only LOVE is real, and you may as well have BIG FUN while you're here!
P.S. Can I get a Thunder clap?! Two times :)

Inspired
by the title of Billy Strayhorn's most memorable song - D'Agostino
opens the show with the heart worn ballad and weaves an intricate and
entertaining tapestry through Lacy's masterful arrangements. For the
viewer - the great surprise is the heightened "in the moment" style
banter between vocalist and musician - and a healthy dose of
D'Agostino's own self-deprecating humor and comic delivery. Friends on
and off stage, D'Agostino and Lacy have built an organic but structured
piece of "Cabaret Theatre" showcasing not only D'Agostino's masterful
vocalizations - but his quick demand of the stage.
More...
